Parent Counselling

Parenting does not come with a "how to" guide. At times it can feel overwhelming, difficult and painful. Parent counselling with Tara is supportive, transformative and will help you to navigate the journey.

What is Parent Counselling?

Parent counselling is a collaborative process whereby parents are supported to navigate the complexities of raising children. Through being provided with the necessary knowledge, tools and guidance, parents are empowered to regain control and strengthen their relationship with their child.

Working closely with Tara, you will  gain an understanding of your child's behaviours, deepen your bond with your child, and have insight into your own emotional experience.

Parent counselling offers help with:

  • Managing behavioural challenges and changes

  • Developing effective communication

  • Strengthening emotional connection

  • New ways to respond to your children

  • A safe place to process emotions

  • Strategies to support emotion regulation

How will Parent Counselling help you and your family?

Parents are bombarded with advice. Whether from the latest parenting book, social media, or well-intentioned friends and family members. This can leave you exhausted and often guilt-ridden, feeling like you are failing on what should be a joyful and natural experience.

There are lots of reasons why you might be motivated to get some support, these are some of the reasons parents have asked Tara for help:

  • Difficulties managing their child's behaviour

  • Navigating big life changes such as separation or divorce

  • Emergence of their own unresolved childhood issues

  • Coping with loss or grief

  • Wanting to break the cycle and raise their child very differently to how they were brought up

  • Feeling disconnected from their child

  • Blending families

  • The arrival of a new sibling

What does it involve?

To start with, Tara will offer you a free 20 minute phone consultation to chat through the reasons why you have reached out. We would then meet weekly for one hour, either in-person in Cheltenham or online.

Sessions are tailored to meet the your individual needs. We will take the time to explore your own history, difficulties and challenges and how this impacts your relationship with your child and the parenting process. There is no prescribed time-limit. Parent Counselling is a fluid interaction, with the intention of providing you with a sense of agency, control and empowerment.
